I Grew Forests (for you)

I finally found time this week to finish the painting I had set out to start over 3 months ago.  In concepting the image, I hadn't initially thought of including snow, but after trying it out, it did seem to add to the overall feel of the piece, don't you think?  I guess it's appropriate that I completed this one while it was still winter!

Italian debut

This Saturday is the opening of the Cuore Pop group show I'm in at Primo Piano Gallery, in Lecce, Italy.  It's the first time I'll be showing any of my original paintings outside of the U.S., so I'm excited to see how they'll be received.  Hopefully the two paintings I sent will find a permanent home abroad!

You can see a preview of the show here: http://www.primopianogallery.com/photogalleryeventoeng.asp?ID=193

Concept Sketching for a Theme Park

I recently worked on some concept sketches for a Movie Theme Park based in China.  I'm still reeling that I actually got paid good money to simply concept and sketch these!  I need to find more of this kind of work...

Setting up a Gallery Show

I helped setup the "Get the Lead Out" group show with Hovin, Tiffany and a few of the other artists last night.

The show's curator, Ally Takeuchi, thoughtly kept us fed with sodas, tacos, and red velvet cupcakes.  Just what the body needs to hang a show!

As you can see, Hovin kept himself useful...

Thankfully I got to arrange my pieces the way I had hoped to display them.

The opening will be tonight from 7-11pm.  It's a one night show, so it'll be your only chance to see all these wonderful works in person!  The gallery is located at 4210 Santa Monica Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90029.

Plush U

I stopped by the opening for the "Plush U" show at Munky King last night.  For those who couldn't make it last night, the show will be up for 3 more weeks, until September 16th.

Fellow Human Pyramider, Noel Ill has her "Herbet Sherbert's" on display at the show.

There was plenty of cuteness to behold...

and wonders to be seen, such as this double ended unicorn!

Here I am, peeking out amongst the plush.

And of course no gallery opening in LA nowadays is complete without a food truck outside!  I had the pleasure of trying Thai ice cream in a cookie sandwich thanks to the Cool Haus truck.  Yummm!

I Am the Boy You'll Forever Chase

One of my favorite lyrics from one of my favorite musicians is an obscure song by Billy Corgan, entitled "The Girl with the Cruel Face".  In it, he sings (from her point of view), "I am the girl you'll forever chase."  I loved the sentiment behind it.  The idea of an ideal or archetypal person we would continually seek to have in our lives.  I decided to put my twist on it, by depicting characters who have played the role of the male paragon in the minds of many women, causing them to seek out the qualities these characters embody, in non-fictional counterparts.

These drawings will be on display for one night only as part of the "Get the Lead Out" group show being held on August 28th at Swoon Gallery (4210 Santa Monica Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90029).  Hope to see some of you there!
